Performance Ehancement Coaching FAQ

WHAT IS PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT COACHING?

Coaching designed to help clients execute their artistry to the degree of their highest potential on a consistent basis with the use of mind-body awareness and control.

WHO COULD BENEFIT  FROM THIS TYPE OF COACHING?

Truthfully everyone can benefit from this, especially if in high pressure enviornments and the expectation is to perform at excellence at all times.  I specialize in coaching dancers and other performing artists. The focus is usually performing artists who:

  • Know they have more to give but don’t know how or where to start.
  • Have tried all sorts of skill training and coaching but still haven’t reached peak performance .
  • Want to learn how to perform their highest quality of work on demand in the face of pressure and high stakes.
  • Experience mental blocks
  • Want guidance before an audition, big show or high stakes performance.
  • Who experience pretty bad anxiety leading up to and during performances
  • Who want to feel more confident in their performances

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A COACH, TRAINER OR TEACHER?

Great! Keep working with them ( as long as you find it helpful!). In many cases, working with both forms of training can help! Performance enhancement coaching focuses on a type of mental training that provides you with the psychological tools essential in guiding the mental components or mindset effecting your overall physical performance. Performance enhancement coaching can be a great supplement to your current supports. Contact me to to learn more!

DON’T YOU HAVE TO BE SKILLED IN MY AREA OF ART TO HELP ME?

Yes and no. You are the expert in where you are in your skills and technique within your craft. My expertise is in guiding you with the psychological training and mind-body practices that effect your level of execution of those skills and techniques. This is also why it is okay for you to receive assistance with a coach or trainer and work with me at the same time.

WHAT IF YOU’RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHAT MY CRAFT AND ARTISTRY IS?

That’s okay, this is a partnership! Before my training in this style of coaching, I had the same concerns. It makes sense! BUT, My role here is not to teach you the skills of your craft such as vocal, speech or acting lessons. Even though I have a background in dance,  I still wouldn’t be training you in dance or the aesthetics of movement. That’s where you would work with a dance teacher or coach. You and I will collaborate, and through assessments we can develop a better understanding of what exactly is going on. My role is to assist in finding the best psychological strategies to overcome your performance challenges. The goal of our work together is to correct the mental aspects you are experiencing that may be causing you to underperform.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MENTAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPONENTS?

Great question! This refers to your thoughts and emotions, as well as feelings you experience when rehearsing or performing for an audience. This can refer to your inner dialogue and self talk. This can also refer to the fear or excitement you experience as it relates to performance. Being distracted by the stage lighting, chatter from the audience or even the discomfort of your  costume or performance attire are also examples of these elements of this as well.
